The Brazil French Press coffee maker, designed in the early 80's, was our first coffee maker and quickly became a symbol of what Bodum stands for. Attractive and functional design at an affordable price. The Brazil has a heat resistant, SAN - shatterproof beaker and a polypropylene handle and base, which make the Brazil easy to use and easy to clean. The 3-part stainless steel plunger has a fine mesh filter, which allows for a premium extraction of your coffeeâs aromatic oils and subtle flavors. A mesh filter allows this flavor to be delivered direct to your cup and not absorbed by a paper filter. Plus, no paper filter means no waste. The patented safety lid prevents the splashing of liquids while pressing. All parts are dishwasher safe. This 3-cup coffeemaker is (0.35 l, 12 oz.) in size and is also available in 8-cup (1.0 l, 34 oz) size model.

Quick and Convenient Way to Make Good Coffee (2010-05-21)
After my trusty Braun 4-cup automatic drip coffee maker conked out on me (after well over a decade!), I broke out my Bodum Coffee Press which I had used only occasionally up till then. Two months later, I'm still making fresh, piping hot coffee from it. I've gotten so used to making coffee using a French press that I'm now in no hurry to buy an automatic drip coffee maker to replace the Braun.
Capacity
--------
The capacity of the coffee maker is 12 fl oz. (US) or 1-1/2 cups (US).
According to the Bodum site, the 3-cup capacity listed in the product page translates into 1-1/2 cups (US measure) (1.5 cups = 8 fl. oz., so 1.5 x 8 = 12 fl. oz).
The use of both 3 cups _and_ 12 fl. oz. in the product description is thus a little confusing. It's a quibble, but I thought I'd mention it anyway.
Pros
----
- Easy Cleanup
Give the beaker and plunger a quick rinse after going through them with soap and water. There are no hard-to-reach crevices where coffee grounds can potentially get stuck.
- Stronger, More Aromatic Coffee.
Since a French press allows the coffee grounds to be completely immersed in hot water to be thoroughly steeped, coffee made with a French press is stronger and more aromatic than coffee made with an automatic drip coffee maker. (I use Peet's Coffee by the way - my favorite)
Additional Notes
----------------
- A Word of Caution
Be careful that you don't apply excessive force when pushing down the plunger.
A plastic nub holding the mesh and spring in place retracted slightly into the plunger after I applied too much downward force on the plunger. As a result, both the mesh and the spring became wobbly and the spring no longer had a tight seal to prevent coffee grounds from seeping through. I had to yank the nub back out to fix the problem.
Tips
----
- Cleaning
The mesh gets a buildup of nasties over time. To clean it, add just water to some baking soda to make a paste. Vigorously rub the mesh with the paste, making sure to work it in between the tiny holes in the mesh. The abrasive action of the baking soda will help remove any stains and buildup on the mesh.
- Coffee Choice
Use a high quality coffee such as Peet's. The highest quality coffee are from Arabica beans (and not all Arabica beans are created alike). The other kind of coffee (a lot of them come in large-sized cans) don't do much in the flavor department, but they do contain more caffeine than Arabica coffee.
---
I'm in love with my Bodum. It makes good-tasting coffee, and cleanup is a snap! What more can you ask? If you're looking for a French press that brews coffee for 1 person, the Bodum is a good bet.
